Ah! Yes that is very different to here, or at least this tree. The first figs are just as green and hard :( nothing had dropped till we shook the branches either. But I’m going to ask around and see if there’s a good variety for Wellington, an early cropper
Just checked; apparently figs are either double or single cropping. Double cropped trees produce the first crop on the old wood (breba) and the second crop on new wood.
His first figs are at the end of the branches, the second crop is along the branch at the junction with the leaves

Down in Dunedin's George st orchard Rory gets ripe figs in the first crop and discards the later crop
In Welly we tend to get one, that may not fully ripen 😭
